Say it with flowers is a new online exhibition featuring a selection of beautiful cards from the 1870s to the 1950s.
All the cards in this exhibition are taken from our Ephemera collection, located in the Sir George Grey Special Collections.
Flowers are universal and appear on a wide range of cards from Christmas and birthday cards to Mother’s Day and mourning cards.
The cards in this exhibition are only a small part of the abundant ephemera collection. Ephemera is a term for printed material originally intended to have a limited life-span, such as programmes, posters, tickets, flyers, invitations and cards. These were originally produced as promotional items to pass on information about specific issues, activities, events, products, and services.
Don't forget our Flowers, fruit and foliage exhibition is running at Central City Library from 29 November - 17 March 2013.
