Am I entitled to free membership ?
If you live or pay rates in the Auckland Council region, you are entitled to free membership at our libraries.
Businesses in the Auckland Council region may apply for a business membership.
If you have an active library card from any of the former library systems – Auckland City, North Shore, Manukau, Waitakere, Rodney, Franklin or Papakura – your card will now give you access to membership at any of the 55 branches of Auckland Libraries. You do not need to re-apply.
Non-resident students at schools within the Auckland Council region are entitled to free membership until their 18th birthday.
How do I become a member?
You will need to fill out a membership form – either
online, or at any of our 55 libraries.
You will then need to bring in two forms of identification to activate your account:
- Photo ID e.g. your passport, driver's license or an 18+ card
- Proof of address e.g. mail posted to your residential address (not your P.O. Box) in the Auckland Council region, such as a rates demand, rent/tenancy agreement, bank/credit card statement, or a business account/invoice.
If you are applying for membership for a resthome, school or pre-school, or you require special access due to age or permanent disability, please contact your local library for more information. Find out more about the membership types available.
Under 18?
- If you are under 18, you will also need your parent, guardian, or homestay host or agent with you when you enrol. Your parent/guardian will need to provide identification and proof of address. In signing as guarantor, your parent/guardian is accepting responsibility for any charges incurred on that card.
- Non-resident students attending schools in the Auckland Council region will need to bring proof of school attendance, such as a student ID card.
