Getting started

Find out how easy it is to start downloading eBooks and eAudiobooks today.

What do I need?

To download an eBook or eAudiobook from Auckland Libraries you’ll need:

  1. An internet connection.
  2. Your library card and PIN. Not a library member? Sign up now.
  3. An account to download apps: an iTunes account (if you’re using an Apple device); a Google account (if you’re using an Android device); a Microsoft account (if you're using a Windows 8 device).
  4. A compatible electronic device with the right software or app.

  5. Compatible electronic devices:
    • Most smartphones, iPads, tablets, eReaders, iPods and MP3 players
    • Kindles can not be used for library eBooks. The Kindle Fire can be used on some websites. > Check for compatibility.
> For more information see software and apps required.

How does it work?

Once you’ve found the book you want to borrow:

  1. Check you have a compatible device (eg. iPad, eReader)
  2. Get any required software, apps or accounts. See information on software and apps required.
  3. Download your chosen eBook or eAudiobook.
  4. Transfer it to a portable device (optional).
  5. In most cases your title will be available for up to 4 weeks before it is automatically removed.

If you’re doing this for the first time and are unfamiliar with downloading software or apps, the initial setup may take around 30 minutes.

Don’t worry though – there’s lots of help on hand and the next time will be much faster – about 5 minutes to download and transfer.
