The Digital Library provides access to eResources and databases that support research into local, regional and family history, as well as showcasing many of the treasures from the heritage collections in online exhibitions. 


The Digital Library contains over 100 specialist eResources with information from renowned encyclopaedias, databases and international newspapers.

We offer a wide selection of eResources on the following topics:

Many of the eResources with a focus on Auckland's heritage have been created by specialist staff at Auckland Libraries; for a full list of databases created by library staff, please see the Auckland Libraries eResources list.

Additional digital resources and collections include historical essays,heritage images and slideshows, local poetry and biographies of notable figures.

Online exhibitions

Most of the exhibitions showcase images, manuscripts, maps and ephemera from previously held Sir George Grey Special Collections exhibitions held at the Central City Library.

Highlights of the online exhibitions include Antarctica, Hochstetter, Shakespeare, Gallipoli, Schmidt, Hokianga and Shades of Grey.
