Auckland Libraries recognises the importance of its commitment to the long term preservation of its collections and undertakes to maintain and make accessible unique and historic material for the people of Auckland and Aotearoa New Zealand.

At Auckland Libraries, we care for and preserve a wide range of rare and historic items including books, documents, manuscripts, maps, photographs and sound recordings. Library preservation experts can give advice on how to preserve your own precious, library and documentary materials, see below for links to useful information.

Treatments emphasise minimal intervention, altering the original item as little as possible in order to maintain historical integrity as well as documentary evidence. Auckland Libraries strives to achieve international standards of best practice for the conservation and preservation of its collections.
