The St James Theatre has had an interesting past with vaudeville shows, musicals, comedy, theatre, movies, dance, and royal command performances gracing its floorboards. Its future is a bit more chequered since its closure in 2007. In recent years, withdrawal of finance for the planned adjacent multi-storey apartment block (which would have partially funded the completion of the restoration of the theatre) leaves its future in a fragile state.
