Auckland Libraries: Japanese storytelling

Rakugo, Japanese storytelling in English

Saturday 9 February 2pm to 3pm Free

Kanariya Eishi (鹿鳴家英志) comes to Central City Library to perform Rakugo – a traditional comedic form of Japanese storytelling for adults - in English.

Rakugo is a Japanese traditional art of comedy storytelling with a rich history of over 300 years. Though Rakugo is primarily a comedic expression, its themes include ghost stories, tragedies, sci-fi, and even erotic tales. Unlike stand-up comedy in the West, it does not always have to be funny. Some stories have very little humour and sometimes do not even have clear punchlines. Please join us in the Events Space for this special performance.
