Auckland Libraries: Westfield Freezing Works

Stepping back into the shed

Saturday 12 October - Saturday 30 November Free

This exhibition at Māngere Arts Centre Ngā Tohu o Uenuku celebrates the people, place and community of the Westfield Freezing Works, Ōtāhuhu.

'Stepping back into the shed: Westfield Freezing Works 1916-1989' celebrates the people, place and community of the Westfield Freezing Works as 2019 marks 30 years since its closure. Photographs, plans, ephemera and other archival material rescued from the Westfield site just before demolition will be brought to life by the memories of the people who lived and worked there.

Curated by staff from Heritage Collections at Auckland Libraries, the exhibition covers over a hundred years of the Auckland meat industry, one of the key industries that formed the backbone of Auckland’s central and southern suburbs.

Join us at the exhibition opening on Saturday 12 October, 10.30–11.30am.
