Heritage Talk: Chinese laundries

Chinese laundries in Aotearoa New Zealand, with Dr Joanna Boileau. This talk provides a brief overview of the history of Chinese laundries in New Zealand, along with telling the story behind the rise and decline of laundries in Auckland.

Dr Joanna Boileau specialises in researching the history of the Chinese in Australasia. In 2014 she completed a PhD on Chinese market gardening in Australia and New Zealand. The Chinese Poll Tax Heritage Trust subsequently commissioned her to research and write a book on the history of Chinese laundries in New Zealand.

Joanna's book 'Starch work by Experts' will be available for purchase on the night ($49.95, cash only).

Drinks and nibbles will be served from 6.15pm.
