We hold a number of maps and atlases of current and historical interest.

Heritage Collections at the Central City Library houses a selection of rare and interesting maps and atlases. The collection contains many items of historic significance and there is a strong emphasis on Auckland content. 

Maps in the collection include:

  • topographical
  • cadastral
  • geological
  • planning
  • street
  • manuscript
  • aerial photography
  • whenua Māori
  • recreation and tourism
  • 19th century ordinance survey maps of the United Kingdom
  • early atlases
  • nautical charts
  • auction plans.

All maps that have been catalogued can be found on Heritage Images . Some maps from this collection have been digitised. Maps which do not have a digitised image attached can be requested to be viewed in the Sir George Grey Special Collections reading room.
