Māori programmes

Our community libraries offer a range of activities, classes and groups for all ages with the goal of building whanaungatanga and whakatipu i te reo Māori.

​Waiata Mai Tamariki Mā - Māori songs for children

Bring your whānau to the library and join Whaea Tina and Whaea Jo for children's waiata, kanikani and kōrero - songs, dance, and stories. It's the perfect opportunity to learn a little te reo Māori for yourselves too!
This programme is on hold.
This session also runs through school and public holidays.
Wellsford War Memorial
Kapa Kōrero

Join us on the last Thursday of every month to explore and practice your kōrero Māori over a cuppa and kai.

Kapa Kōrero is suitable for all ages and any level of confidence with te Reo Māori. Bring your whānau and enjoy the fun activities!

Reo Māori conversation group

Support your te reo Māori journey with weekly conversation groups at Avondale Library. Make friends, share stories and reinforce your learning with locals who kōrero Māori.

New Lynn War Memorial
Kēmu+Kōrero

Play a te reo game with others with a passion for te reo Māori. Laughter guaranteed, and a great way to learn new words. All levels welcome, fully bilingual.

Join us for a rawe session of Kēmu, kōrero, and a kapu tī.

Come together with others who have a passion for te reo Māori. Yarns guaranteed, and a great way to learn new words. All levels welcome, bring your whole whanau (pēpi included).

Join us to practise conversing in te reo Māori, in a relaxed setting, with fellow learners of all levels. This weekly group also welcomes fluent speakers. We are all learning - kaua e whakamā (don't be shy). This isn't a class!

A space to share kōrero of all levels of Te Reo Māori. From beginners to fluent. A friendly and casual session that is not facilitated by library staff.

Reo & Rhyme

Come along and enjoy this Māori – English bilingual Rhymetime session at Papakura Library. Songs and rhymes for children aged 18 months to 3 years. Rhymetime provides music, songs, movement and finger rhymes to pre-schoolers and their caregivers. All welcome!
