Auckland Libraries: The Chelsea Sugar Works

The Chelsea Sugar Works

Wednesday 23 May 12pm to 1pm Free

Learn about the establishment of the Chelsea Sugar Works and the impact it had on the local community in this HeritageTalk with Brian Potter.

Chelsea Sugar Works
While the opening of the Harbour Bridge impacted North Shore communities, 70 years earlier the building and opening of the Chelsea Sugar Works significantly affected the fledgling Birkenhead community.

Join Brian Potter, a local historian from the Birkenhead Heritage Society, as he discusses how the sugar works attracted new settlers, provided employment and enhanced the skill of the community.
