We recognise the unique place of Māori as tangata whenua, the indigenous people of Aotearoa New Zealand. We seek to promote te reo Māori and to provide access to Māori knowledge, heritage and identity for Māori and for everyone who seeks this information through libraries.
Each library has its own Māori collection.
- A Māori collection is placed prominently in each library. This may include some reference items that are for in-library use only.
- A Māori reference collection is held at each of our research centres. Some of these items can be borrowed.
- Adult fiction written in English by a Māori author is in our general collection, which moves around all Auckland Council Libraries locations.
- All children’s Māori collections may be in either the children’s collections or the Māori collection.
Remember: You can place a request on a title and select which library you want to pick it up from.
