What can I write about?

Up to 500 words on one of these three topics:

  1. ‘Only in NZ’ – a story about an iconic NZ event or person.
  2. A story set in your school.
  3. A topic of your choice.

Judge’s Tips

  • Decide on the ending before you start writing.
  • Jump straight into the action.
  • Your story should have a clear beginning and middle, but it’s the ending that’s most important.
  • Be concise – get rid of any words that aren’t essential.
  • Ask someone else to proof-read your story.
  • Write from your own experience – this gives a more authentic feel.
  • Punctuation and paragraphs matter! The easier your story is to comprehend the better.

    Good Luck!
