How we can help you with research

Our four research centres in CentralNorthWest and South Auckland serve as regional hubs, with specialists on hand to help you with family history, whakapapa research and local history.

We can also help out if you’re researching a special project or topic. You can request research assistance by phoning the research centres or by filling out the general enquiries form.

Research searches that take less than 30 minutes, and enquiries that involve staff assisting a customer to use the rauemi of the library, are provided free of charge. Where the research is more in-depth, a charge may apply.

Inter-library loan service

Can't find what you need in the Auckland Libraries collection?

We provide an inter-library loan service that allows you to access material held in other libraries in New Zealand or overseas.

Submit an inter-library loan request form with as much information as possible. If the request is urgent, please include the deadline date.

We will contact you by email or phone if we need more information, or if we can't source the item you want.

If you have any queries about the Auckland Libraries inter-library loan service, phone (09) 307 7742 or fill out the general enquiries form.

There is a charge for the interloan service. Charges vary depending on what you need. Visit our fees and charges page for full details.

Before proceeding with international or urgent requests, we will contact you with a quote.
