eBooks and eAudiobooks

Manage your accounts

Most of the eBook and eAudiobook websites each have their own built in account, which are separate to your library account (My Info). Lending conditions and services are different to borrowing physical books from the library and vary between websites.

My Info vs. eBook and eAudiobook accounts

  • Checked out OverDrive eBooks and eAudiobooks will display in My Info.
  • eBooks and eAudiobooks from BorrowBox, Wheelers, Ulverscroft Digital, and EBSCOhost will not display in My Info.
  • You can renew OverDrive eBooks and eAudiobooks within My Info.
  • You can see your OverDrive holds within My Info in the eBook section. Visit the other eBook websites to see your other holds.
  • Reading history in My Info only includes physical items – not eBooks or eAudiobooks.

Tips for managing your accounts

Follow the tips below to help you get the most out of the eBook and eAudiobook websites.

Choose your own loan period

Pick the loan period that’s best for you. On some websites you can choose the length of time you can borrow a book. Either set up a default loan period or choose between a number of options when checking out your book.

> Check loan periods

Renew titles you haven’t finished with

Some websites let you renew a book you have checked out. Alternatively, you can just check it out again if nobody else has placed a hold (reserve) on it.

> Check renewal options

Use more than one website if you read a lot

Each website lets you check out 10 books at once. Use them all and you can check out a large number of books at any one time.

Return early, borrow more

If you finish with your book before the loan period ends you can return it early on some websites. This makes the title available for another customer to read and lets you borrow even more.

> Check which websites let you return early

Place holds (reserves)

  • Some books are in high demand and you’ll sometimes have to wait for these, just the same as you do for a physical book from the library. Place a hold to get yourself in the queue. You'll receive an email when it becomes available.
  • The number of holds you can have at any one time varies from website to website. Know your limits.
  • Only OverDrive holds will display in your library account - My Info. Remember to check your account on the other eBook websites.
  • The time you have to check out your eBook or eAudiobook varies between the websites. Make sure you know when your hold will expire so you don’t miss out.

> Check holds information

Use the reading history to keep track of what you’ve read

Sometimes it’s hard to remember if you’ve already taken out a book. Log in to your account on the BorrowBox, Wheelers, and Ulverscroft Digital websites to see your reading history. The OverDrive and ULibrary (Ulverscroft Digital) apps for Android and iOS also include a reading history feature that you can opt into.

Create a wish list

Create a wish list of books you would like to read later. OverDrive includes a wish list feature you can use. Alternatively, use My Lists in the catalogue to create a wish list from all the libraries’ collections – if it’s in the catalogue, you can add it to your list.

Keep your library card functioning

  • If you card has been made inactive by a librarian, e.g. if you reported your card lost, it will no longer work on the eBook websites.
