“I wanted to create an artwork to represent Auckland’s colourful cultures, plus feature the coastline with sea and sky”.
“Pohutukawa plus hints of sea, sky, waves, boats and greenery”.
“Tui - one of my favourite NZ birds and represents a little stroll down memory lane of my primary days where I'd walk home with mum from Onehunga Primary, and we'd point out the tui”.
“This is a painting of our family experience at Parnell libraries. The library system of Auckland has become a big part of our life, and every member of the family finds something to enjoy”.
“I wanted to create a piece of art that showed the iconic Auckland skyline while also focusing on that natural beauty that surrounds us - both on the ground and in the sky above us. For me, Auckland never feels entirely removed from nature, and it only takes a short drive to find beautiful beaches and bush walks”.
“Auckland is a city surrounded by water, from beaches to lakes to streams and the two harbours, water is almost unavoidable. Watching a sunset at one of these unique beaches always reminds me that nature is never far away in Auckland and how lucky I am to call this place home”.
The winning designs will be used for our 2021 library card collection, available in libraries from June 2021.
