Kids' collections and services

​Our libraries offer collections and events for kids of all ages.


Collections for kids

In each library's dedicated children’s area you’ll find:

  • books for tamariki of all ages
  • jigsaw puzzles
  • kōmeke
  • CDs
  • DVDs
  • school resources.


The children's area is also where children’s activities are held:

  • Wriggle and Rhyme sessions for babies
  • Rhymetime for toddlers
  • Storytime for older pre-schoolers.

  • non-fiction
  • eBooks
  • kōmeke.

Homework help

Some libraries run after-school homework centres during term time, offering help with assignments and computers. We also contribute to online homework help service AnyQuestions , run by the Ministry of Education.


Events for kids

You can find kids’ clubs and classes, from robotics to Minecraft, on the events calendar, where we also publish our school holiday programmes.


Collections for teens

We offer teens a wide range:

  • DVDs.


To support high school students we have:

  • NCEA study guides for years 9 to 13

  • Cambridge study guides

  • books of essay writing tips

  • revision help books

  • books on strategies for coping with study and exam stress.

Events for teens and Makerspaces

Some of our libraries have Makerspaces - areas where you can make all sorts of things, like robots, apps, digital music, and 3D printing. Check your local library webpage to see what’s on offer.
