Family history research

Waitakere Central Library offers a specialist genealogy service and collection.

The library has partnered with the West Auckland New Zealand Society of Genealogy to provide an in-depth genealogy service. As they are volunteer based, their services are offered on a casual basis, if and when available. We strongly advise you to call us to make an appointment. 

Usual hours of service are:

Monday - Thursdat 9.30am - 1pm, and on weekends by appointment only.

This service is available on Level 2 in the Reference Room at Waitakere Central Library.

For general genealogy reference queries, library staff can help you during all opening hours.


Microfilm/microfiche readers

Microfilm/ microfiche readers and a computer terminal are all free for use, available on a first come, first served basis.


Other facilities 

The J.T. Diamond Reading Room has oral history equipment available for loan. Staff offer support and assistance for Auckland Libraries members who wish to record West Auckland stories. All enquiries in the first instance should be made to the Local History Librarian or any staff in the J.T. Diamond Reading Room, Waitakere Central Library, phone 09 839 2260.
